LET DANIEL AND REVELATION SPEAK

The major focus of Let Daniel and Revelation Speak, is to allow the Bible to speak the message of the prophets and the lessons they have for us today.

Each chapter of Daniel and Revelation is covered, and presents to the reader subjects new and old, and lessons simple and profound. These prophetic books are dealt with in great detail and the Bible is used as much as possible as the basis for all commentary and understanding of symbols and terms, so get ready for many hours of learning and Bible study.

May God bless you and give you wisdom and insight as we study together.

AUTHORS INTRODUCTION

This book represents a diversion from what is currently transpiring in the area of prophetic interpretation. Rather than presenting a multitude of comments, I have sought to allow symbols, events, and verses to be interpreted and explained by corresponding Bible texts. These will be recognized by quoted phrases from Daniel and Revelation in boldface type, followed by the Bible verses that define or highlight the events, symbols, and verses. Only when the Bible is allowed to be its own interpreter and is allowed to define its own terms can we find harmony in past, present, and future applications of Bible prophecy. In the first six chapters of Daniel, which can be readily understood, one or two key lessons are drawn from each chapter, again allowing the Bible to highlight the thought. The prophetic portions of Daniel and Revelation contain more commentary due to the complexity of the subject, but I have sought as much as possible to allow the Bible to be the basis of the commentary.

DANIEL 11: THE KING OF THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH

As you read Daniel 11, you may become confused with the figurative language and the constant reference to “he” and the kings of the north and south. However, Daniel 11 can be understood, as it follows the same pattern as the prophecies in Daniel chapters 2, 7, and 8. Each of these prophecies begins in Daniel’s day and carries forward to the end of time.

REVELATION 7: WHO SHALL BE ABLE TO STAND?

Chapter 6 closes with the question “Who shall be able to stand when Christ comes and endure the wrath of the Lamb?” In chapter 7 John declares, “after these things” that he saw in chapter 6, a new scene is presented to his view. And what is it he sees? John is given a description of those who shall stand before Christ at His coming, having never tasted death. They are the ones who stand triumphant against the beast, his mark, and the number of his name. They are the ones who stand unmoved during the cataclysmic events of the seven last plagues and are alive to see the “blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13).

REVELATION 8: THE LATTER RAIN AND THE FINAL WARNING

The seven angels with their trumpets are messengers who bring tidings from God to this world; they give seven messages of warning and doom. Though the trumpet judgments may seem similar to the seven last plagues, these trumpet messages of judgment are mixed with mercy. This chapter opens with a scene of intercession taking place in the sanctuary of heaven. In Revelation 15:6–8 we see the angels who are to pour out the seven last plagues coming out from the temple, while smoke fills the temple “and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.” The temple filled with smoke and no man able to enter there until the seven last plagues are fulfilled indicates that intercession for mankind has ceased.

REVELATION 9: TRANSGRESSORS ARE COME TO THE FULL

Overview

In the fifth and sixth trumpets, we see in highly symbolic language the rise of Islam, its warfare against the eastern Roman Empire, and its subjugation and conversion of country after country to Islam. The latter part of the sixth trumpet foretells the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

REVELATION 10: TIME NO LONGER, AND THE LAST MESSAGE

The message of Revelation 10 begins with the time near the end of the sixth trumpet in the 1840s and carries us down to the completion of the seventh trumpet. During this time “this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come” (Matthew 24:14).

REVELATION 12: WAR IN HEAVEN, AND THE CHURCH IN THE WILDERNESS

Revelation chapter 12 begins a new line of prophecy that continues to the end of the book. In addition to dealing with the past, the major emphasis is on last-day events, the coming of the Lord, and the culmination of earth’s history. This section of prophecy sets forth the church of God in conflict with the powers of evil, and the church’s ultimate triumph over evil.

REVELATION 13: PART 2 • THE BEAST REEXAMINED

In the previous section, we allowed the Bible to highlight the characteristics of the beast. In this section, we want to make application of these characteristics so that we might define who the beast is. If you are not fully familiar with the various characteristics of the beast derived from our previous study, please take a moment to review them. Just from the Bible clues, many may already know or may have a guess as to who the beast is. Hopefully, by the time you finish this chapter, you will know for a certainty.

REVELATION 13: PART 3 • THE LAMB-LIKE BEAST THAT SPEAKS AS A DRAGON

In part two of our study, we saw that the characteristics of the beast describe the church/state system of Rome. The remaining portion of Revelation 13 reveals another global power that will actually aid the first beast in its attainment of global ascendancy.

REVELATION: 14 THE HARVEST MESSAGE

Revelation 13 closes with the entire world apparently worshipping the beast. But in Revelation 14:1–5, John depicts for us the experience of the people who will not succumb to the beast. In Revelation 13 they are described as those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life and who do not follow the beast. (See Revelation 13:8.)

REVELATION 19: THE WEDDING, AND THE COMING OF CHRIST

Revelation 19:1–7 constitutes an anthem of praise that takes in all of the heavenly host. This song of triumph is in great contrast to the mournful dirge of the kings and merchantmen who witness Babylon’s demise, as described in the latter portions of Revelation 18. Sin and rebellion against God and His truth may, like Babylon, triumph and prosper for a time and appear as the way to peace, prosperity and heaven. However, only true heart service and love for God based on the revelation of His character, counsel and law as found in the Bible will stand.
